14-year-old promise from Grupo City was shot dead in Uruguay

Christmas was marked by a violent episode that left Uruguayan football in mourning. Goalkeeper Geral Froste, 14, was shot dead in a fight between neighbors in Montevideo, the country's capital. According to the newspaper El País, the young man was hit by projectiles in the chest and abdomen.

According to testimony from the goalkeeper's mother, there was a disturbance between Froste's family and a neighbor who lived on a corner near the family's house. While some people tried to break up the fight, the killer pulled out a gun and fired shots that hit the goalkeeper in the chest and abdomen. The goalkeeper was taken to the hospital by his grandfather, but he did not survive his injuries and died.

Murderer reportedly passed by the police

The murder suspect arrested by the police has a total of six arrests with the police, the most recent being before the case in 2023 for theft. The suspect, according to the information, after firing the shots, tried to pick up the bullet cartridges that were on the ground.

Neighbors even tried to burn down the suspect's house. Some information states that the house was set on fire and others claim that this did not happen. The Uruguayan police are still investigating what actually happened in the confusion that ended with the goalkeeper's death. The Public Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of the Interior Uruguayan closely follow the case.

Club where goalkeeper played spoke out

Geral Froste was a goalkeeper for one of Montevideo's youth teams city Torque. The club is part of the City Football Group, a conglomerate that brings together, in addition to Torque, clubs such as Bahia, Bolívar and Manchester City.

Torque spoke out on social media about the case.

“We deeply regret the passing of Geral Froste, the club's under-14 goalkeeper. We accompany your family, friends and colleagues in this sad time for us all. Goodbye, General”, said the club in a statement on social media.

Torque played the 2024 season in the Uruguayan second division where they were champions. The club already played in the Copa Sulamericana in 2021 when it was in the Bahia group, beating Tricolor da Boa Terra 4-2 in a game held at Pituaçu.
