Lexi's play was inspired by a true story

The penultimate episode of HBO's renowned drama series, “Euphoria”finally brought to the screen the presentation of Lexi Howard's play. Maude Apatow, the actress who plays the character, revealed her inspirations for the theatrical side to Entertainment Weekly. The production has been winning the hearts of fans, along with the character's play.

Maude told the magazine: “Sam Levinson (director) is great on the phone. I wanted to call him while I was writing, to bounce different ideas off of how the character would evolve.”. After a few failed attempts to understand what would look best for the character, the two reached a consensus on the possibility of Lexi creating a play.

According to the actress, the inspiration came from her own high school years, when she experienced a similar situation: “It would make sense for Lexi to be a theater kid. I was in real life, and the play is loosely based on my senior year of high school. We had a student-directed and produced performance. I was the producer and I was like the tyrant. So, yes, it is based on a real event.”.

The actress also praised director Sam Levinson for his careful work with the character, and said she knew from the beginning how her arc would only be explored in the second season of the production. The feelings that the two had in common between Maude and Sam were the pillars that formed Lexi's personality: “We talk about how we are anxious in life. We direct that anxiety and feelings into doing something and using it. My writing and acting, that's what I do, and so is Sam. So is Lexi.”

Euphoria Season 2

The second season of the series follows the relationship between Rue (Zendaya) and Jules (Hunter Schafer) and her drug addiction. The series premiered on January 9, 2022 on HBO Max, with episodes being released on Sundays at 11 pm on the platform. In addition to the actresses, most of the cast returned, including Sydney Sweeney, Barbie Ferreira, Angus Cloud, Javon Walton, Jacob Elordi, Austin Abrams, Algee Smith and Alexa Demie.
