“I show my ass, because I'm beautiful!”

Singer, presenter, actress, and composer. Not only is she a multi-faceted artist, the 43-year-old from Pará, Gaby Amarantos, also represents a strong symbol of the fight against fatphobia and reaffirmed to Quem magazine the importance of the debate about the problem. The cause, which is considered by many to be a “whining” of the generation, as it is an invisible issue – with the exception of overweight individuals -, it is, in fact, a systemic behavior that urgently needs to be combated, since it is one of the main reasons for the development of eating and mental disorders.

“[Mostrar a pele] I think it's a natural thing, not that we have that intention. Preta Gil and I kind of came up at the same time, when that wasn't done much. I think it's a natural thing. Since people already pay attention and know that we need to value all real bodies, it ends up being a political act,” claims Gaby.

Structural oppression, which despite not being classified as a crime, is seen as institutionalized prejudice and can be classified as injury or moral damages. Furthermore, the word “fat”, still has a pejorative meaning for many, therefore, Gaby reaffirms the importance of redefining bodies. “I think I'm beautiful, sexy, hot and I want to show off my belly, show my butt, because I'm beautiful and wonderful”

The singer also reveals that she follows a balanced diet and regularly exercises, proving that health goes beyond shape.

“I eat everything, but during the week I have a balanced diet. On the weekends I eat gluten, I exercise, but it’s all very easy. I’m not a bodybuilder, no! I go for walks, I really like yoga, I really like pilates, things that stretch and always do aerobics.” told.

In this context, it is clear that fatphobia is nothing more than a prejudice disguised as “concern for health”, with the real intention of embarrassing and dehumanizing bodies, all the time.
