Abel Ferreira says he is satisfied with Palmeiras' debut in the Libertadores

Verdão went to Argentina to face San Lorenzo and ended the game in a 1-1 draw. In the press conference after the game, Abel said that the team takes a “positive feeling” despite the result, due to the circumstances of the game.

Lineup changes

Palmeiras traveled to Argentina without most of their main players and entered with an almost entirely reserve team in their championship debut. Players like Endrick, Raphael Veiga, Mayke, Zé Rafael and others stayed in Brazil at the coach's option, taking into account the physical exhaustion that this game would bring.

Abel left the game optimistic and satisfied, “It's always good to leave with the feeling that the team fought, played, created. We're here because we never gave up. We wanted to start with a victory, it wasn't possible, but we got a positive feeling, with a team that doesn't have a game rhythm , but that's what I train for”said the Portuguese.

The Alviverde coach also explained that the changes to the starting line-up were more about managing the energy of his athletes due to the wear and tear at this stage of the season, and not simply to preserve the players for the next game to come.

The green team went into halftime losing the game, a goal from defender Jhohan Romaña with a header. In the second half, the guy changed the team, adding Luis Guilherme, Flaco Lopez, Anibal Moreno and Piquerez, who was the scorer of the equalizer after hitting a free kick straight into the goal, in the 81st minute.

Upcoming appointments for Verdão and San Lorenzo

The match was valid for Group F of the competition and now the two clubs will only play again in the Libertadores next week. Palmeiras hosts Liverpool, from Uruguay, on Thursday (11) and San Lorenzo faces Independiente del Valle on Wednesday (10).

In addition to the Conmebol Libertadores, Palmeiras has a decision ahead, on Sunday (7), against Santos at Allianz Parque, the return game of the Paulista championship final. Santos has an advantage, as they won the first game 1-0, and Palmeiras is the current champion and comes with maximum strength to fight for the title.
