Absurd! TSE prohibits Bolsonaro from being re-elected until 2030 for criticizing the electoral system
Former President Jair Bolsonaro was banned by the TSE from being re-elected until 2030 on grounds of abusing political power while serving as President of the Republic. Former Minister Braga Netto, Bolsonaro’s vice-president, was unanimously acquitted of the accusations.

The decision took place this Friday (30) by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), as a result of the events involving the former president in 2022. Bolsonaro defamed the Brazilian electoral system without evidence during a meeting at the Palácio da Alvorada, which was broadcast by Official government TV.
The defense claimed, during the trial at the TSE, that discussions related to the electronic electoral system cannot be a taboo. Several ministers released their opinions, for and against the president, see below:
Minister Benedito Gonçalves showed his support regarding the ineligibility, saying how much Jair Bolsonaro misused his political power, as well as his means of communication.
The defense countered, claiming that it was distracting from the real point of the meeting, and that any form of communication is meant to influence a medium. “The meeting therefore had an electoral purpose, aiming to influence the electorate and national and international public opinion using the public structure and the prerogatives of the office of President of the Republic was contaminated by a deviation of purpose in favor of the candidacy of the investigated ticket “said the minister.
Minister Raul Araújo also spoke about the event: “There should be no limits on the right to doubt“, he said.
The penultimate to vote, Minister Nunes Marques, claimed that he understands that “there should be no limits on the right to doubt”however, do not agree with “the requirement of sufficient severity” for such condemnation.
Minister Cármen Lúcia stated that Bolsonaro committed serious cases: “There is no democracy without an independent judiciary.”she said.
In the end, the majority of votes were for Bolsonaro to be considered ineligible for a period of 8 years, until 2030.
