AC Milan comes for 1.2 billion euros – “AC Milan” gets a new American owner. The champion of Italy falls for an amount of 1.2 billion euros in the hands of investment company RedBird Capital Partners. “RedBird”
Milan had been owned by Elliott Management since 2018, a year after owner Silvio Berlusconi sold his shares to a Chinese investor after years. Elliott will remain a shareholder. The acquisition should be completed in September.
“RedBird’s priority is to further shape Milan’s “AC Milan” return to the top of the world with the current organization. A combination of many factors will ensure that the next chapter in Milan’s history will propel the club to greater heights,” Milan said in a statement on Wednesday.
Milan reported in recent seasons after some very lean years back at the top in the Serie A. The team of coach Stefano Pioli was last season second and last month secured the first league title in eleven years.
The rise of the nineteen-time national champion must now also lead to European success. Last season, ‘I Rossoneri’ stranded in the group stage of the Champions League.
Milan is certainly not the only Italian club in American hands. Serie A clubs AS Roma, Atalanta, Fiorentina and Spezia also have an owner from the USA.
