Sony is trying to stop Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. In response, Microsoft has now lashed out at Sony. According to the software giant, Sony would pressure game developers not to release games on Microsoft’s Xbox.

Microsoft has made the allegations in a document submitted to the British regulator CMA. It is in the process of assessing whether or not the acquisition of Activision Blizzard should be approved.

According to Microsoft, Sony has the exclusivity over a number of games, including the new version of Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy XVI, Bloodborne and Silent Hill 2. According to the software giant, these games will therefore never be released for other game consoles.

Sony has also made agreements with game studios that certain games may not be released on the Xbox, Claims Microsoft. According to Microsoft, the PlayStation manufacturer would determine on which game consoles or platforms games may be released. That would be part of the agreements to be allowed to release games for the PlayStation.

The planned acquisition already earned the company criticism from competitor Sony. The PlayStation maker is afraid that games from Activision Blizzard will soon only be played on the Xbox.

Regulators are also concerned about the acquisition. The American competition watchdog FTC started a case earlier this month to prevent the merger. In addition to the American authorities, Europe and the United Kingdom are also looking at whether the takeover is acceptable.
