activision blizzard acquisition – The European Commission (EC) has sent a long questionnaire to competitors of Microsoft and game company Activision Blizzard, reports Reuters news agency. With the questionnaire, competitors can indicate why the acquisition of Activision Blizzard may or may not go through.

Answers to the questionnaire should give the EC insight into the ways in which Microsoft could disadvantage competitors after the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The final decision whether the acquisition can go ahead will be partly based on the answers of competitors. The EC will issue a provisional decision by 8 November at the latest.

The European regulator is afraid that Microsoft will keep Activision Blizzard’s games exclusively for itself. Microsoft could also give itself an advantage by releasing games first for the Xbox.

Microsoft has already made many commitments to reassure regulators, such as the promise that competitors will not be disadvantaged. Yet regulators are not entirely comfortable with it.
