According to data from the National Consumer Price Index (INPC), released this Tuesday (10), in Rio de Janeiro, by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the inflation that calculates the annual adjustment of the minimum wage closed November at 0.33%, reaching 4.84% in 12 months.
Currently, the minimum wage is R$1,412. The rule that establishes the adjustment percentage determines that the value undergoes two corrections. The first is from the 12-month INPC, totaling 4.84%. The second concerns growth in the previous two years. Which went from 2.9% to 3.2%. As a result, the calculation of the minimum wage will reach R$1,528 in 2025, representing an adjustment of 8.22%.
Rule change
The Federal Government sent Bill (PL) 4,614/24 to the Chamber of Deputies at the beginning of the month. The proposal aims to promote the readjustment of expenses linked to the minimum wage. The urgency of approval is so that the adjustment of the minimum wage takes effect in 2025.
The Chamber approved the urgency nature of the project on the last day (4). If approved, the new minimum wage would receive two corrections: 4.84% of INPC plus 2.5%. In this way, the value of R$1,518 would represent an adjustment of 7.51%, with a final value R$10 lower than that of the current rule.
The government justifies that the new adjustment formula aims to promote the reduction of expenses that have the minimum wage as a floor, such as social security benefits, unemployment insurance and salary bonuses. The proposal aims to guarantee fiscal control of the Brazilian economy, ensuring greater control of mandatory expenses and public investments.

Government should review calculations
The 2025 annual budget bill sent by the federal government to the national congress, on August 30, calculated an adjustment of 6.87% for the minimum wage, which would increase it to R$1,509. Therefore, the calculation must be revised, since the percentage was calculated before the IBGE released the growth of the Brazilian annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with the INPC. The IPCA for the month of November accumulated a value of 4.87% in 12 months, reaching 0.39%
Popularly called official inflation, the Broad National Consumer Price Index (INPC) calculates the variation in the cost of living for Brazilian families with a total income of up to five minimum wages. While the IPCA measures family values of up to 40 minimum wages.
