Adriane Galisteu reveals diagnosis of otosclerosis, an autoimmune disease

The presenter of the Rede Record reality show, Adriane Galisteu, went to the program “Podcringe” this Thursday (12), where he spoke about the new edition of “The Farm“, his aging process and revealed that he suffers from otosclerosis, a progressive autoimmune disease that causes tinnitus, hearing difficulties and even leads to hearing loss.

Disclosure of autoimmune disease

The exclusive podcast from PlayPlus, Record's streaming platform, welcomed Galisteu to discuss the preparations for the new edition of “THE Farm”, the reality show that she runs on the network. However, what really caught our attention was Galisteus' revelation about his condition.

The presenter decided to do some tests after noticing a hearing loss and then the doctors diagnosed otosclerosis. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), otosclerosis is a disease of the middle ear that causes progressive hearing loss, due to the abnormal growth of the stapes bone, which interferes with sound conduction.

No cure and treatment

Adriane reported that otosclerosis has no known cure and that she has already lost almost 60% of her hearing capacity. Because the disease is relatively new, doctors still don't have enough information about the condition.

Galisteu confessed that the disease manifested itself when his son was just 3 years old. Vittorio is currently 14 years old. She states that she is looking for doctors who specialize in the disease, as most do not have enough information, as it is a very new condition and continues to be investigated.

No one knows exactly how, where or when the disease started. Furthermore, Galisteu commented that doctors recommended a transplant if she completely loses her hearing, as there is still no effective treatment to combat the condition.

“There is no treatment available. They recommend transplantation only after total hearing loss. It's a very difficult situation, as if I were on a plane and the pressure never returned to normal. Sometimes I experience tinnitus that gets worse over time. We never we're used to it,” commented the presenter

Aging process

Galisteu reflected on accepting aging and revealed that it was not easy for her. The presenter, who is currently 51 years old, said that getting older was a difficult experience. According to her, it is not about the issue of gray hair or the loss of mass and muscle, but the realization that everything has an end, including life, and there is no way to escape it.

Confess if you would participate in the reality show

This same Thursday (12), Galisteu participated in a press conference to promote the program “The Farm”. During the event, she admitted that she would have the courage to participate in the program. However, he recognized that, even if he tried, he wouldn't be able to be a “plant” and confessed that he didn't know how he would behave in confinement.
