After being fired by Santos, Carille is close to coaching the Saudi club

After a season of much criticism of his work from the fans, Fábio Carille says goodbye to Santos having fulfilled the mission of making the black and white team return to Série A of the Brasileirão and also won the Série B title and took the club to the Paulistão final where they lost to Palmeiras.

Now without a club, Carille already has a new destination very close to being achieved: Al Wehda, from the Saudi League, where the coach spent time in 2018 after leaving Corinthians, champion of the Brasileirão the previous year.

According to information from Lance!, negotiations between the Saudi club and the coach are advanced and the agreement should be sealed soon.

Al Wehda is second to last in the Saudi league with six points out of a possible thirty. In 10 games in the competition, the team won one match, drew three and lost six.

Dismissal came after controversial statement in Santos defeat

Fábio Carille's dismissal came two days after Santos won Series B. The club has already entered the champion field against CRB and even with the award of the cup, the game that was supposed to be festive stopped being so after the 2-0 defeat to the Regatians.

After the defeat, the coach was the target of boos and insults, as he was in almost the entire campaign in Series B, even hearing shouts of “donkey” coming from the stands.

At the press conference, the coach spoke about the situation:

“I also see this (that the fans are not happy). Anything can happen, I've seen every twist and turn. There was pressure on Corinthians against Tolima and the continuity of Tite. You don't know what pressure is, you don't know. May the best happen for Santos in 2025” – said the coach at a press conference.

The coach's statement had a very bad impact behind the scenes and was one of the triggers for the automatic renewal clause in the contract not to be activated.

Just yesterday, the coach spoke out on social media stating that his mission at Santos was accomplished by putting the club back in Série A of the Brasileirão.

Santos, in a note published on social media, states that the termination was made by mutual agreement and now the coach and club are following different paths.

Santos seeks new coach and probes free names on the market

After Carille's dismissal, Santos begins to outline the profile of the coach that Peixe wants to lead the team during 2025.

The board wants to avoid what happened in 2023 when Peixe had a total of five coach changes throughout the season, which resulted in the beach team's relegation to Series B of the Brasileirão.

So far the strongest names to lead the team in 2025 are Pedro Caixinha, who led Red Bull Bragantino in the last two seasons, Luís Castro, who led Botafogo in 2022 and mid-2023 when he transferred to Al Nassr and Cuca, who has played for black and white three times and in his most recent stint at the club reached the Libertadores final, losing the game and the title to Palmeiras in a move where the same was directly involved. There was still speculation with the names of Renato Gaúcho, currently at Grêmio, and Tite, who was fired from Flamengo in September this year.

At the moment, no conversations have been opened with any name and the Santos board is in no rush to complete the signing.

Santos still has one last commitment of the season in Series B against Sport on Ilha do Retiro at 6:30 pm and in this appointment they will be led by under-20 coach Leandro Zago.
