Alok, Owerá, Brô MC's and indigenous leaders bring diversity to the Global Citizen Festival

This Saturday (28), Brazilian music gained space in New York, during the Global Citizen Festival. At the event, which has as its main objective the fight to end extreme poverty, Alok, the rapper Owerá, the group Brô MC's, as well as the indigenous leader and singer Mapu Huni Kuin and Célia Xakriabá, indigenous federal deputy from Minas Gerais, took to the stage. to present songs from the album “O Futuro é Ancestral” together.

Alok, the leaders and musicians represented the diversity of people in Brazil and carried with them the flags of the country and the state of Pará for the performance. On the New York stage, they brought representation to various peoples, such as Guarani Mbyá, by rapper Owerá , the Guarani and Kaiowá peoples, from the Brô MC's group and the Xakriabá, from deputy Célia.

In a post on the event's official Instagram, the organization highlighted that the message taken by Brazilians was clear: “together we can make a difference”.

The album

“The Future is Ancestral” is a joint production by Alok with 8 indigenous peoples from different ethnicities and locations in Brazil. “Preserving their native languages ​​(of the indigenous people) and protecting them is also protecting our culture and respectively our biomes”, commented the DJ about the album, on Instagram.

According to him, the objective of the project is to channel and take indigenous voices to the rest of the world to bring about change.

The Global Citizen Festival

The Festival is an event organized by the institution of the same name, Global Citizen, which has been taking place for over 10 years in Central Park. This year, the event celebrated its 12th edition, with a line-up that included names like Doja Cat, LISA and Post Malone. This year led by Hugh Jackman, ambassador for Global Citizen, the main objective of the event is to celebrate the actions taken in the last year to end extreme poverty, and advance work to improve the world, according to the institution's website.
