During the night of this Saturday (26), Alok performed an epic show on Copacabana beach, in the south of Rio de Janeiro. Entitled “Show of the Century”, the free presentation celebrated the centenary of the famous Copacabana Palace Hotel and the DJ's 32nd birthday. Even with heavy rain, the unseasonal New Year's Eve brought approximately one million people to the beach sand.

Mega structure and mix of rhythms

The Show of the Century had a grandiose structure. Alok performed on a 360-degree pyramid-shaped stage, with screens on all sides, rotating and 30 meters high, equivalent to an eight-story building. Lasting around two hours, the audience was also treated to drawings in the sky made by drones synchronized to the beats, lights, flames of fire and fireworks, which represent the classic style of one of the most famous DJs in the world today.

The musical part of the show mixed a lot of electronic music, remixes of national songs and international hits, but one of the highlights of the night was one of the most Brazilian rhythms: samba. The DJ invited drums from the Rio Special Group samba schools and their respective master room and flag bearer couples in a mix of rave and carnival that excited the audience, who at this point no longer even cared about the rain that was falling on the street. city.

Tribute to MC Marcinho

The night was also a tribute to the Prince of Funk, MC Marcinho. Alok paid tribute to one of the MCs responsible for spreading funk melody and played one of his biggest hits, Glamurosa, while displaying photos of the funk singer on the sides of the stage. The artist died today, in Rio de Janeiro, at the age of 45, due to multiple organ failure.

“I couldn't help but pay tribute today to a guy who was a funk legend, who passed away today but leaves his legacy through his art: MC Marcinho (…) This is for you who are watching us from heaven today, Thank you for everything.” -Alok

Celebrities such as Maísa Silva, Tadeu Schmidt, Lúcio Mauro Filho, Marvvila, Douglas Silva, Luciano Huck, Angélica, Marcos Pitombo, Rebecca, Papatinho, Sasha Meneghel, Sérgio Malheiros and Sophia Abrahão attended the night's two birthdays.
