Ancelotti defends Vinícius Júnior – Coach Carlo Ancelotti calls it worrying and incomprehensible that Vinícius Júnior is still the victim of racism. The Real Madrid forward was again racially abused in the away match against RCD Mallorca (1-0 loss) last Sunday.
“It seems like the problem now is with Vinícius, but it’s not like that,” Ancelotti said at his press conference in Rabat, where Real Madrid are playing the Club World Cup this week. “This is a problem of Spanish football that needs to be solved. What should we defend Vinícius against? He’s a victim of something I don’t understand.”

The 22-year-old Vinícius has been targeted more often this season by racist supporters. In September, Atlético Madrid fans chanted that the Brazilian looks like a monkey. A few months later, Real Valladolid supporters shouted racist slogans at Vinícius Júnior, who a day later said that La Liga is not doing enough against racist fans.
Last Sunday it was hit again. Footage from DAZN shows Vinícius Júnior being insulted by Real Mallorca supporters because of his skin colour. La Liga announced an investigation into the events on Monday.
“Racist people are bitter about their own lives and then try to vent their frustrations in the stands on a 22-year-old boy,” Federico Valverde said at the same press conference. “You have to show respect for others. As teammates, we will continue to defend him.”
Vinícius Júnior is one of the most important players at Real. The twenty-time Brazil international scored 13 times in 31 games. He will play with Real in the semi-finals of the World Cup against Egypt’s Al Ahly on Wednesday night. Ancelotti defends Vinícius Júnior
