Armored vehicles seized on A2 are collectibles

The military armored vehicles that were seized by the Marechaussee on Thursday afternoon on the A2 near the Limburg town of Gronsveld are collectibles. A spokesman for the Marechaussee reported this to Afrilatest on Friday.

These are American M8 Greyhounds from World War II. These are vehicles equipped with machine guns.

The vehicles were seized on Thursday after they were found on the trailer of a truck. The Marechaussee and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) were called in to see whether the armored vehicles were still armed.

According to the spokesman for the Marechaussee, it was first thought that this was the case, because the “correct marking” for this was missing.

The vehicle was later found to be safe. This concerned the armor on the vehicles themselves, and therefore not individual weapons or ammunition.

The driver of the truck was arrested and both the military vehicles and the truck with trailer were seized.

According to the spokesman for the Marechaussee, the 31-year-old suspect is still in custody and is currently being interrogated.

A police spokesperson said the truck was on its way to the United Kingdom. It is not clear what would happen to the vehicles there.
