Avowed for PC promises graphics and on Xbox they accept 30fps

If you, like me, are part of the glorious PC Master Race, get ready for yet another reason to look down on your friends who insist on playing on consoles. Obsidian Entertainment has just revealed that its next fantasy RPG, Avowedis aiming at soft 30fps on Xbox consoles. Yes, you read that right, while we in the realm of PC gamers will enjoy all the graphical glory with performance that only the PC can provide, the poor console owners will have to settle for a capped experience.

Let's face it, 30fps in 2024 already sounds like a step backwards, right? But Obsidian has decided that it would rather focus on beautiful graphics and breathtaking visual effects, especially on the PC version. This means that those of us blessed with the power of next-gen GPUs will be able to enjoy spectacular lighting, “juicier” visual effects (Obsidian's words, not mine), and an experience that will crush any attempt by consoles to remain relevant.

Matt Hansen, Obsidian’s art director, revealed during the Iron Lords podcast that the team chose to prioritize these visual aspects, which, in mortal terms, means that “we gave up 60fps so that the game would look like a Hollywood movie.” Of course, in the console world, they are still “tuning” the performance, but let’s be honest, anything below 60fps shouldn’t even be considered.

Now, let's be serious, this “60fps is not necessary in a single-player game” talk is the kind of excuse that we only hear from those who have not yet experienced the wonder of running everything at maximum, with stratospheric frame rates. If you have been through this, you know that there is no comparison. So, while Xbox players will try to justify their choices with “at least we have incredible graphics”, we, on PC, will be enjoying Avowed as it was truly meant to be played: with all the visual effects turned up to maximum and, of course, without compromising fluidity.

And here’s a fun fact: did you know that Obsidian is known for its history with PC RPGs? They’ve been responsible for some of the most beloved games in the genre, such as Fallout: New Vegas. So when they say they've invested over 200,000 hours testing the PC version of Avowedwe know that good things are coming.

So, my friend, if you're still stuck on a console, maybe it's time to reconsider your choices. Because on PC, we're going to experience Avowed as it should be: without compromises, without excuses, and, most importantly, with all frames that our hardware can deliver.
