AZ knows what losing is again
The disappointment is great at AZ, which surprisingly suffered the first league defeat since November 7 against FC Twente on Sunday. The Alkmaarders were unable to convince and lost 0-1.
The winning goal was scored in the second half by Twente defender Joshua Brenet. Due to the loss, AZ as number four is now four points behind Feyenoord, which is third.
“We were literally and figuratively without a chance. We created very little and played badly. Then you don’t deserve a win. This was one of our worst games of the season,” playmaker Dani de Wit told ESPN .
The former Ajax player contradicted the suggestion that Thursday’s lost Conference League match against FK Bodø/Glimt (2-1) in Norway had an effect in the meeting with FC Twente.
“Of course we ran into that and it was a physically tough game, but one must not have to do with the other,” he said. “This was another game in itself and it’s very disappointing how we played.”

Trainer Jansen saw fatigue at AZ
Pascal Jansen saw that AZ was mainly lacking in freshness. The trainer concluded that his players could not bring what they are normally capable of.
“It seems like we gave in to a bit of fatigue. In the first half we were trumped by aggressiveness. We tried to play out under the pressure, but then you have to be really fresh,” he said.
“We tried to bring that a little more in the second half. We knew in advance that Twente is difficult to collect goals and that you have to work really hard for that. We have brought very little offensively today.”
AZ will have the chance for revenge on Thursday, when the return against Bodø/Glimt is scheduled in Alkmaar. Three days later, an away game against Willem II awaits.
