The bail application for Ziyahd Hoorzook, accused of terrorist financing, will continue in the Lichtenburg magistrate's court on Wednesday.
Hoorzook, 35, faces multiple charges under the Protection of Constitutional Democracy from Terrorism and Related Activities Act. Additional charges include violating the Foreign Military Assistance Regulation Act and the Firearms Control Act by failing to secure firearms in the prescribed manner.
“During the court proceedings, it emerged that on 30 November 2017, Hoorzook allegedly transferred R11,500 in cryptocurrency to a bitcoin account.
“Investigations revealed that this transaction was linked to foreign military assistance provided to an organization allegedly involved in terrorist activities,” said National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Sivenathi Gunya.
On 3 October 2024, police searched his home in Sandton, where they discovered two licensed firearms that were not stored in a safe as required by law.
Hoorzook was arrested on January 3 and has remained in custody since.
