Ballistic missiles developed by Pakistan could reach the US

This Thursday (19), an American White House official declared that Pakistan, a country with nuclear weapons, is developing missiles that can reach the United States. The statement came from Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer, who also highlighted that attitudes towards the missile program in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, may be dubious.

“Frankly, it's difficult for us to see Pakistan's actions as anything other than a growing threat to the United States.”, declared Finer to the audience at the Think Tank Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Advanced ballistic missile technology

Jon Finer also highlighted Pakistan's great potential for developing nuclear weapons, highlighting that other countries outside of South Asia could be affected, including the United States.

“Pakistan has developed increasingly sophisticated missile technology, from long-range ballistic missile systems to equipment that would allow it to test much larger rocket engines.,” he said.

The US Deputy National Security Advisor's statement came amid the new sanctions session regarding Pakistan's Ballistic Missile Development Program, in which Washingtion took a stand against the responsible state agency.

Pakistan considers sanctions biased

According to information from the Reuters news agency, two high-ranking US government officials stated that the biggest concerns regarding the construction of ballistic missiles by Pakistan are due to the size of the rockets being developed and the likely war potential.

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry has sharply criticized the US for exempting other countries from licensing requirements for the development of advanced military technology. The Pasquitanes government also stated that American sanctions are biased and accused the country of double standards in arms policies.
