Barcelona regrets elimination,
At FC Barcelona, they are very disappointed with the elimination in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, but especially with the enormous amount of fans of Eintracht Frankfurt who were present at the return in Camp Nou on Thursday. There were many more than was allowed.
Frankfurt had been allocated 5,000 tickets, but an estimated 30,000 German supporters set the mood. Some of the Barcelona fans even decided to leave the stadium halfway through.
It is unclear how it could have happened that so many Frankfurt fans entered the stadium. Barcelona, which lost 2-3 and is european eliminated, will investigate that.
“It didn’t help us. It looked like a final, with the same number of supporters of both clubs in the stadium,” said Barcelona coach Xavi. “I’m disappointed by it and the players talked about it in the dressing room, although it shouldn’t be an excuse.”
President Joan Laporta was also very disappointed. “It’s a disgrace. This must not happen again. We still have to see how exactly this could have happened, but it is very disappointing.
I’m ashamed as a Barcelona fan. I apologize. We will take action,” he said.

‘We must not deviate from the path we are taking’
Barcelona was already 0-2 behind at home after more than half an hour, after which Filip Kostic even made it 0-3 after halftime with his second goal of the evening.
In injury time, Barcelona came back through Sergio Busquets and a well-taken penalty from Memphis Depay, but that was no longer enough.
According to Xavi, Barcelona has the elimination to themselves to blame. “We made a lot of mistakes, with every goal actually. They were things that we had discussed and therefore should not have happened,” he said.
“Yet we should not deviate from the path we take and believe in what we do. We must learn from our mistakes and believe in our philosophy even more because of this defeat. It’s just a matter of time and patience.”
Barcelona seems to have found their way up under Xavi, despite the European elimination. In the competition, the club of Frenkie de Jong, Memphis and Luuk de Jong has now climbed to second place.
