Benjamin Netanyahu announces $5 million reward for anyone handing over a hostage in Gaza

Last Tuesday (19), Benjamin Netanyahu, the current Prime Minister of Israel, proposed a reward for anyone who returns a hostage imprisoned in Gaza. Benjamin Netanyahu also guaranteed that, one way or another, all hostages will return to Israel.

$5 million reward

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke about the proposal to offer around US$5 million to people who let a hostage return to Israel. According to the Prime Minister, in addition to the reward, security will be offered to those who free the hostages and wish to leave the war zone, guaranteeing protection for the person and family's departure.

According to Benjamin Netanyahu, even if the proposal is not accepted, the people who are held hostage in Gaza will return to their country, regardless of their choice. Benjamin Netanyahu's announcement was announced directly from the Netzarim corridor in central Gaza, alongside Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz. The prime minister also said that anyone who harms a hostage “will pay the price”.

Delayed negotiations

According to information, critics of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have accused him of delaying negotiations for the release of hostages trapped in Gaza, stating that this situation only serves to prolong the war and his permanence as Prime Minister in the Israeli government, however , Benjamin Netanyahu denied the accusations regarding this matter. The news was received with outrage by the mother of Matan Zangauker, one of the hostages still trapped in Gaza, where she expressed her outrage that the prime minister was trying to negotiate the lives of the kidnapped victims.

Matan Zangauker's mother criticized Benjamin Netanyahu for trying to negotiate with Hamas by offering them money, potentially putting the hostages' lives in danger by trying to divide and govern Gaza by bribing the kidnappers. The hostage's mother also commented on the agreement where Qatar offered millions of dollars to Gaza over the years with support from Israel “It’s incredible that the man who financed Hamas is once again offering the group money,” questioning her about Benjamin Netanyahu's attitudes.

In 2018, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended this initiative, stating that the objective was to restore peace in Israeli villages in the south, in addition to preventing a humanitarian disaster in Gaza. On October 7, 2023, when the Hamas group attacked Israel, they killed more than 1,200 people, in addition to taking 250 people hostage.

Of the captives taken by Hamas, 97 hostages remain in Gaza, where the Israeli army confirmed that at least 34 bodies are included. However, many people rescued during Israeli operations were brought back dead, causing much outrage and revolt among the people of Israel.
