The current president of the United States, Joe Biden, promised this Thursday (7) a “peaceful and orderly” transition of government, and accepts the choice made by the Americans. In the speech held at the White House, Biden recognized Trump's victory, spoke about Kamala Harris' defeat and praised the character and years-long partnership with the vice president.

Biden said in his speech at the White House that he spoke with President-elect Donald Trump to congratulate him on his triumph “and ensure that my entire administration will be directed to work with your team to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition“. The Democrat completes his speech by saying that this is what the American people deserve, and that on January 20, 2025, there will be a peaceful transfer of power in America.

In his speech, Joe Biden called for an end to polarization. “For some, this is a moment of victory; for others, a moment of loss.” The Democrat said that campaigns are disputes between divergent views, and the country chooses one of them. “I've said many times: you can't love your country only when it wins, and you can't love your neighbor only when you agree with him”, declared.

It is worth remembering that in 2020, when Biden beat Trump at the polls, the Capitol was invaded by the Republican's supporters to prevent the Democrat from becoming president. Violence marked the following four years and consequently left the American population “afraid” of the future presidential transition in January.

The current president invited Trump to a meeting at the White House. This will be the first meeting between the two since Biden's poor performance in the debates against the Republican, which pressured him to give up his presidential candidacy.

Donald Trump will assume the US presidency in 2025

The Republican won the race against Democrat Kamala Harris despite his conviction record and facing lawsuits, one of which was the invasion of the Capitol in 2020. The United States Supreme Court ruled that Trump could not be prosecuted for acts he committed in his mandate (2017-2020).

In a note released last Wednesday (6), the Republican party team reported that in the coming days and weeks, the president-elect will select collaborators to serve the country under his leadership. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and billionaire Elon Musk are names tipped to occupy positions in Trump's administration.
