Botafogo makes offer for Colombian midfielder James Rodriguez
Botafogo, owned by investor John Textor, entered the fight for the pass of Colombian midfielder James Rodriguez, currently without a club. His passage through Greek football, sparked the interest of clubs in the region, mainly Turkish football. According to sources, Turkey’s Besiktas was in advanced negotiations with the midfielder’s agents and the arrival of Botafogo, spiced up the dispute for the athlete. The first attack by the club from Rio de Janeiro was before the Qatar Cup, but the athlete opted to play for Greek football. The fact is that Botafogo went shopping and also probed the possibility of having Matias Rojas, from Argentine Racing, for this start of the season. Local news reports that the athlete may not renew with the Argentine club.
James Rodriguez is 31 years old and is a left-handed midfielder. He began his career with Envigado, in 2006, a team at the time still in the lower divisions of Colombian football. A year later, he debuted in the elite of Argentine football, for Banfield. With good passages through European football, he had his peak, for Real Madrid, in 2014, returning to play for the merengue club, in the 2019-2020 cycle.
For the Colombian national team, James started for the under 17 team in 2007, being chosen for the main team two years later. His peak with the national team was in the 2014 World Cup, where, despite being defeated by Brazil in the quarterfinals, he competed with high-level football, drawing the attention of the main European clubs.

Rodriguez still practices modern football, where he can play in different positions, as an advanced midfielder and even with an area presence. He is very much in line with Botafogo’s mentality, a football that prioritizes possession of the ball and territorial dominance. In his passages through Porto and Monaco, James was very close to Brazilian players, among them, Kelvin and Souza. In French football, he was right company with Fabinho.
