Brazil debuts with victory over Nigeria in women's football in Paris

Brazil made its debut at the Paris Olympic Games, facing the strong Nigerian team, which in the last World Cup reached the round of 16, being eliminated on penalties by England.

The Brazilian team took the first step towards winning their first gold medal, beating Nigeria 1-0 and adding three points in Group C. Gabi Nunes scored the only goal of the match.

Nigeria presses in the opening minutes

Brazil opens the scoring and takes control of the game

In injury time, Nigeria's defense blocked a cross with their arm and the move was reviewed by VAR, after two minutes of analysis, the possible penalty was not awarded.

In the second half, Brazil put on pressure, Lorena barely touched the ball. Brazil's best chance came from a cross by Marta, who ended up surprising everyone and hitting the far post.

Marta still had another opportunity after goalkeeper Nnadozie's goal kick went wrong, the number 10's shot ended up hitting the Nigerian goalkeeper.

Brazil's next games

Brazil returns to the field next Sunday (28) against Japan, at 12 pm (Brasília time) and ends the group stage on Wednesday (31) against Spain, also at 12 pm.
