Data released by the Central Bank of Brazil (Bacen) this Tuesday (29) revealed that, between January and September this year, foreign tourism injected R$30.821 billion into the Brazilian economy. Of this total, R$3 billion were made in September alone. The result represents growth of 25%, the best performance in the last ten years.

Rise in Brazilian tourism

The increase in the flow of tourists in Brazil and the consequent growth in economic activity is mainly due to the expansion of international interest in the country's natural beauty. Around 4.9 million foreign visitors visited different Brazilian destinations in recent months.

The Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino states that the federal government has observed this growing international interest in the country. According to him, among Brazil's greatest attractions are its cuisine, regional diversity, natural riches and culture. “This shows that we have a very valuable economic market to be worked on, with actions and public policies that promote our tourist attractions abroad.”, he highlighted.

Most popular destinations

As stated by Daniela Araújo, director of Destination Products at the online travel agency Decolar, the demand from foreigners for Brazilian destinations in 2024 is greater than in the same period in 2023. “Demand from foreigners for travel packages to Brazilian destinations more than doubled in the second half of 2024, compared to the same period in 2023“, highlighted Daniela. According to her, the most popular places for foreign tourists in Brazil are the coastal cities in the northeast.

Check out the 10 most visited cities by foreigners:

  1. Porto Seguro (BA);
  2. Recife (PE);
  3. Salvador (BA);
  4. Maceió (AL);
  5. Porto Alegre (RS);
  6. Natal (RN);
  7. Rio de Janeiro (RJ);
  8. Fortaleza (CE);
  9. Foz do Iguaçu (PR);
  10. Florianópolis (SC).

International Tourism Acceleration Program

In partnership with Embratur, the Ministry of Tourism created the International Tourism Acceleration Program (PATI). The project aims to promote public-private partnerships with airlines and airports to increase the number of international flights to Brazil.

The federal government aims to make Brazil the largest recipient of tourists in South America. The objective is to reach the number of 8.1 million foreign travelers to the country, as well as profit US$8.1 billion from this public.
