Brazilian footballer announces bisexuality and marks the history of his country

bisexual – Former Brazilian international and star in his country, footballer Richarlyson has just made an important announcement. He announced his bisexuality in a podcast and thus becomes the first professional footballer in the country to make such an announcement.

What is Bisexuality?

Bisexuality is romantic attraction, sexual attraction, or sexual behavior toward both males and females, or to more than one gender. It may also be defined to include romantic or sexual attraction to people regardless of their sex or gender identity, which is also known as pansexuality. Its an attraction to more than one gender.

This attraction could be physical, romantic, and/or emotional.

Bisexual people may experience different kinds of attraction to different genders, and their attractions may change over time.

FORMER Brazil international footballer Richarlyson has come out as bisexual.

Football may be the most popular sport on the planet, but there are still areas in which there is progress to be made, particularly in the fight against homophobia. After the scandal caused by the attitude of Paris Saint-Germain player Idrissa Gueye and the mixed reactions, we can see that it is still difficult today to declare his homosexuality.

An Australian player did it several months ago now and he has received the support of many personalities from the world of sport and elsewhere, but today it is a former football star who has spoken out about his sexuality.

Richarlyson played more than 20 years in football, mostly in his country, Brazil, before retiring in 2021. If he did not manage to break through in Europe, he had a very good career in South America and was even entitled to the honors of the Seleçao, the national team of Brazil.

After this brilliant career, he decided to reveal himself in the Brazilian podcast Les armoires des vestiaires and he talked about his sexuality. “A lot of people say my positions are important, so I decided to speak today: I’m bisexual,” he said.

I’m not able to move mountains to end homophobia in football

An important and historic speech since Richarlyson thus becomes the first footballer who has played in the Brazilian first division to publicly declare his bisexuality. “I hope it will really contribute” to bringing more tolerance to the world of football, he continued.

A strong announcement, but the former footballer remains lucid about the scope of his gesture. “I’m just a normal citizen. I’ve had a great career, but I’m not able to move mountains to end homophobia in football. Unfortunately, the world is not ready to debate this subject calmly.”

Former teammate of the legend Ronaldinho, the former player of 39 years now wanted to put an end to the rumors around his sexuality. “All my life I was asked if I was gay. 

I have had relationships with men and women. I’ve always been myself, I wanted to show that no matter what someone says about me, I would always do what I want,” he concludes.
