BTS canceled their return to the United States after the Recording Academy announced the indefinite postponement of the Grammy Awards ceremony, which was scheduled to take place on January 31, due to the spread of the Ômicron variant of Covid-19 in the USA. The group competes in the category “Best Pop Duo or Group Performance”.

The information was confirmed this Thursday (6) by the group's agency, Big Hit Entertainment in a statement to the South Korean outlet Newsen:
“We were getting ready to go to the Grammys, but we stopped discussing plans after hearing about the postponement of the ceremony.”

Big Hit also announced that, despite the cancellation of the trip to the United States, there are no changes in relation to BTS's next commitments as a group, such as the concert scheduled to take place in Seoul, in March this year.

This is the second year in a row that the Grammys have been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, last year the ceremony had also been scheduled for January 31st, but ended up being postponed to March 14th, after a holiday season spike in virus cases in Southern California. This year's list of Grammy nominees is led by Jon Batiste, who competes in 11 categories, he is followed by Justin Bieber, Doja Cat and HER, with eight each. Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo follow with seven nominations each. The award presentation will be made by Trevor Noah.

Recently, during Christmas week, group members Suga, Jin and RM tested positive for Covid-19. As they had already completed their respective vaccination schedules in August last year, Big Hit Music reported that they only had mild symptoms of the disease and that now, after completing the quarantine and following medical advice, they have already recovered from the disease.
