Businessman passes away unexpectedly during MRI

Businessman Fabio Mocci Rodrigues Jardim, aged 42, died during his skull MRI exam at a medical clinic in Santos, São Paulo. The result of the necropsy from the Legal Medical Institute (IML) is being awaited by the trader and widow of the deceased, Sabrina Altenburg Penna, to find out the cause of death.

The businessman reportedly suffered a massive heart attack while undergoing treatment, on Tuesday (22) at 2pm. The report from the Santos Death Verification Service (SVO) says, however, that the death was considered a “suspicious death”.

How it all happened

In an interview with the G1 portal, Sabrina Altenburg said that her husband had scheduled the exam MRI scan after a doctor heard his complaints about feeling very sleepy that day.

THE exam It was scheduled for noon on Tuesday, but the husband was seen at 2pm. Sabrina said she left the clinic to eat on the lower floors of the building where the service took place, but in less than 30 minutes she returned and asked one of the employees about her husband. The employee stated that her husband was fine, but shortly afterwards, she saw a “strange movement” in the exam room and when she asked again, she was told that her husband felt ill but that the team would take care of the situation. Sabrina then sat and waited.

Approximately 40 minutes had passed when two Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) professionals entered the resonance room, Fábio was having a cardiac massage while Samu doctors arrived. Even after the efforts of those present in the room, shortly afterwards Sabrina was informed that her partner had suffered a massive heart attack and died.

The case gained national attention and several groups linked to the case or the deceased spoke out about the event.

Fábio Mocci's family mourns his death, Sabrina still has countless doubts about everything that happened and is not consoled by the confusion regarding the cause of death. The widow reports that she does not know anything about what happened inside that room in the 40 minutes it took EMS to arrive for help, nor what first aid was taken by the team or whether Fábio was already dead before the rescuers arrived.

She highlights that she doesn't want to blame anyone but wants to understand her partner's death,”I went in there with my husband to take an exam and came out with a piece of paper in my hand.“, she concluded. In addition to his wife, a 6-year-old daughter and 14-year-old stepdaughter were left by Fábio Mocci.

The municipal administration published a note informing that Samu had been activated at around 3pm that day; It is highlighted by the municipality that the rescuers found a doctor from the clinic attending to the patient.

According to the Public Security Secretariat of the State of São Paulo (SSP-SP), the case is now investigated by the 2nd Police District of Santos. The IML report is being prepared and will be analyzed by the authority as soon as it is finished, the department highlights: “It is worth clarifying that the process for completing the reports takes time due to its complexity and the deadline can be extended for technical reasons, in exceptional cases. When this occurs, the requesting authority is always notified“.

The clinic that treated the deceased has not commented on what happened to date.
