The match between Canada and Peru, valid for the second round of the Copa América, was not of a high technical level, but there was no lack of excitement for those on the field and for the fans watching. In the second half, with the Canadian team up one for almost the entire second half, they opened the scoring with a beautiful goal from Jonathan David on the counterattack and the match ended 1-0. The two teams stumbled in the first round, with a 0-0 draw for Peru against Chile and a 2-0 defeat for Canada against Argentina.

The first half

The first stage was dominated by the Peruvian team. The Canadians barely managed to get past the opponent's defense. The Peruvian team even scored a goal with their most dangerous player, Lapadula, but the referee disallowed it as the goal was offside. With striker Andy Polo he explored the right side of the Canadians and in a move there, the ball reached Quispe who was free in the area, but goalkeeper Crépeau saved it.

The second half

After the break, Peru started better, but at the beginning of the second half, Araujo was sent off after a violent tackle on striker Shaffelburg. Playing with one more until the end, Canada pressed more and scored the goal on a counterattack. Larin recovered the ball in defense, passed to Shaffelburg who left Jonathan David ready to score. At the end of the match, two Peruvians known to Brazilians almost scored: Cueva from inside the area and Guerrero, from a free kick. Both attempts were saved by the Canadian goalkeeper.

With this result, Canada has three points and is second in Group A, while Peru remains with just one point. Argentina is the leader with three points and will face Chile in the second round. The last round will be played on Saturday at 9 pm (Brasília time). Canada will face Chile and leader Argentina will face Peru. The top two teams will advance to the quarterfinals, which will be played next week.
