Carioca final between Fluminense and Flamengo

In an official note, the Federation explained the reason for the changes:

“After a meeting at the headquarters of the Football Federation of the State of Rio de Janeiro, with President Rubens Lopes, the board and representatives of Flamengo (Bruno Spindel, Cacau Cotta and Diogo Lemos) and Fluminense (Marcelo Penha), it was defined, by consensus, the dates of the Carioca Betnacional Championship finals: April 1st, at 8:30 pm; and April 9th, at 6 pm.

Reasons and objectives:

• • On the 27th, at night, Conmebol will hold a draw for the starting line-up of the Copa Libertadores games for Fla and Flu. The times and dates will probably be known the next day. The possible scheduling of a game on Tuesday (4/4) would make the derby at Maracanã on Sunday the 2nd unfeasible;

• • It is necessary to meet legal deadlines for operating the game;

• • As a way of protecting the health of the athletes, considering the date-FIFA and the sequence of games, the confrontation had the traditional time of 16:00 changed to 20:30;

• • It was agreed between the clubs, at the meeting, that the second game will be held on April 9 at 6 pm.

It is important to note that, unlike the semifinals, there will be no advantage of a tie on aggregate. If the match ends in a tie, the decision will be decided on penalty kicks.

Fluminense and Flamengo will play in the final of the Campeonato Carioca, for the fourth consecutive time. Flamengo won in 2020 and 2021, Fluminense won in 2022 and this year is looking for the second championship.

The ranking of the greatest carioca champions:

Flamengo is the club with the most titles, having won the trophy 37 times. Second is Fluminense, with 32 titles, followed by Vasco da Gama with 24 titles and Botafogo, who won the competition 21 times.

With defined dates, Fluminense and Flamengo are preparing to dispute the decision of the 2023 Carioca Championship, the expectation of the fans is to watch a beautiful game.
