Cary Fukanaga Talks No Time to Die

The director of the newest film in the franchise '007', Cary Fukunaga, classified the James Bond played by Sean Connery between 1962 and 1971 in the first films of the franchise as “rapist”. The director expressed his opinion in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter website, making reference to a scene from “007 Against Atomic Blackmail” 1965, with a nurse played by actress Molly Peters.

In the scene commented by Cary Fukunaga, James Bond says he will keep secret information that could cost the nurse her job if she sleeps with him. The character says: “I believe my silence can have a price”. The nurse answers: “You don’t mean… Oh no”. Bond then retorts: “Oh yes”. He then pushes her into a sauna and removes her clothes, ending the controversial scene.

“Is it in 'Blackmail' or 'Goldfinger' that Sean Connery's character rapes a woman?”asked the director during the interview. “She says 'no, no, no' and he says 'yes, yes, yes'. That wasn't going to work today.”completed the director.

The interview given by Cary Fukunaga took place on the eve of the release of “007 – No Time to Die“, the latest film starring actor Daniel Craig as agent James Bond. The film is set to premiere in Brazilian cinemas on September 30th.

“No Time to Die” has been promoted by its producers as the film of “007” with the greatest concern regarding gender issues. In addition to the presence of actress Lashana Lynch as a possible heir to the designation of agent 007, the film also features actress and screenwriter Phoebe Waller-Bridge as one of those responsible for the film's story.
