Cate Blanchett innovates at premiere with blouse made of spoons

Actress Cate Blanchett turned heads on Tuesday (07) when she appeared on the red carpet at the premiere of her upcoming film wearing a high-necked top made from metal spoons. Constructed by Swedish designer Ellen Hodakova Larsson, the piece is made up of 102 metal spoons found in and around Stockholm.

In addition to capturing the attention of those present on the red carpet visually and audibly, the piece worn by Blanchett brought up discussions about sustainable fashion and value in the fashion industry. The actress has previously shown herself to be attentive to these topics. In an Instagram post, stylist Elizabeth Stewart, who was responsible for Cate's complete look, highlighted her admiration for Hodakova's work and said she believes she is changing the conversation about sustainability in fashion.

Hodakova's creations

Spoons may have been a new addition to Cate Blanchett's wardrobe, but they're not new to the Swedish designer's creations. Known for her inventiveness and for using unconventional materials in her creations, Hodakova doesn't hesitate to bring new ideas to her pieces.

On other occasions, the Swedish designer has already shown her goal of redefining the value of fashion. In one of her collections, she even presented a dress also made of spoons. And in July of this year, she designed a dress made of leather belts that was worn by Emma Corrin at the screening of “Deadpool and Wolverine” at Comic-Con.

The event

The actress wore the innovative look in Los Angeles, at the premiere of her new film, Borderlands: The Fate of the Universe is at Stake. Directed by Eli Roth, the film is based on the video game franchise of the same name and features names such as Jamie Lee Curtis and Jack Black in the cast.
