With the victory over France this Saturday (03), the women's team qualified for the semi-final of the Olympics, a result that could give Marta the chance to wear the Brazilian uniform once again in the Paris-2024 games, but for FIFA, this return will not be in the semi-final.
Marta's suspension
The number 10 received a red card after making a hard tackle on the Spanish player Olga Carmona during the third round of the group stage. As punishment, the Brazilian received a two-match suspension after the trial by the FIFA disciplinary committee, with the first match against the French national team having already taken place. The CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) contacted its legal department seeking to appeal the committee's decision and guarantee a suspensive effect.
In contact with the ge.globo portal, the Federation responded about Marta's punishment. According to the disciplinary decision, it was due to the serious foul committed against the Spanish left-back, so the suspension would have to be for two games. The entity states that this sanction is the minimum punishment according to the disciplinary code and that it could have reached 3 games.
“According to the disciplinary decision, Marta received a red card for serious misconduct and was punished with a two-match suspension (minimum sanction provided for in the Disciplinary Code)'', says a FIFA statement.

National Team Victory
The Brazilian national team beat the home team 1-0, the match in Nantes was sealed after a goal by striker Gabi Portilho in the 37th minute of the second half. In the final minutes of the match, goalkeeper Lorena's solid performance secured the result that kept Brazil alive in the Olympics.
The team's next match will be the semi-final against Spain in Marseille, at 4pm (Brasília time) this Tuesday (6). Even without the guarantee of Marta's return, the result will define whether Brazil will go to the Olympic final or if it will compete for the bronze medal in Paris.
