Central Bank announces launch of PIX by contact

The Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) announced that, next week, payments through PIX can be made by bringing the cell phone closer to a card machine. The institution also informed that the “PIX Scheduled Recurrent” tool is now available, which allows the scheduling of payments and bank transfers, of the same value and on the same day of each month.

The new transfer features via PIX aim to automate monthly payments, particularly for self-employed professionals, who receive payments through CNPJ and individuals. In addition, recurring scheduling will be possible in several other situations, such as rent and pension payments for children.

The president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, explains that the features will be fully operational next week. “Now, this week, we will have an event with Google to launch PIX contactless payment. In the same way that you have Google Wallet today, where you tap your credit card and pay, you will be able to do this with PIX starting next week“, says Campos Neto.

Virtual shopping optimization

For proper use, the user must register the PIX in the cell phone's digital wallet. This tool is currently available for payment via debit and credit cards. However, the new feature will allow, instead of using a credit card, the action to be carried out using the account's bank details.

The functionality will bring convenience, allowing the user to make, for example, payments directly through the digital wallet, without the need to leave the virtual store, open the bank application, copy and paste the PIX key (as currently happens).

The tool will be launched by the Central Bank next week. Initially, it will only be available for devices with the Android operating system, as the institution is still negotiating the creation of the tool for IOS devices.
