Dior continues to enchant the world with its ability to unite fashion, history and art. This time, the brand released a behind-the-scenes documentary about the Cruise 2025 collection, created by Maria Grazia Chiuri and presented in the grand Italian gardens of Drummond Castle, in Scotland. Titled “Dior in Scotland”, the film reveals the creative and cultural details behind the show. The film is now available on the Dior YouTube channel.

Creative process behind the Cruise 2025 collection

Chiuri, art director of Dior's women's collections, found inspiration in the book “Embroidering Her Truth: Mary, Queen of Scots and the Language of Power” by feminist historian Clare Hunter. This work explores how Mary Stuart used embroidery as a form of political expression, a concept that resonated deeply in the creation of the collection.

The creative journey began in Dior's own archives, including records of the 1955 spring fashion show, held at the Gleneagles Hotel, also in Scotland. The connection to Scottish traditions has been enhanced through collaborations with local arts. Chiuri visited the Johnstons of Elgin weaving mill, explored Esk Cashmere's Fair Isle patterns and delved into the archives of Robert Mackie, maker of ceremonial hats for military regiments.

The initial inspirations came from classic pieces and old records of the brand

The film also highlights the creation of an exclusive tartan for the collection, developed with the Harris Tweed collective. This fabric, known for its artisanal manufacture in the Outer Hebrides, is produced in pedal tears by artisans who are often also farmers. Among other collaborations, artists Pollyanna Johnson and Samantha McCoach, founders of the Le Kilt brand, stand out, who develop their expertise and vision for the collection.

Chiuri describes Scotland as a cinematic country, rich in poetry and romance. “Think about how the country’s outdoor culture influenced designers like Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen”she commented, also highlighting Christian Dior's own fascination with Scotland and its iconic fabrics.
