Nomadland walked away with most of the prizes in EE British Academy Film Awards last Sunday night (11)taking home best film, director, actress and photography. Chloé Zhao's Spotlight image reinforces awards season momentum and makes Zhao only the second woman to win the directing award BAFTA one day after achieving the same feat at DGAs.

When accepting the award for best director, Zhao commented that the honor “would make my teacher at Brighton College very proud”. When she won the award for best picture, she dedicated the award “to the nomadic community that welcomed us so generously into their lives. They shared with us their dreams, their struggles and their deep sense of dignity. Thank you for showing us that aging is a beautiful part of life, a journey we should all cherish and celebrate. The way we treat our elders says a lot about who we are as a society and we need to do better.“.

Lead Actress winner Frances McDormand, best known for her incredible performances as strong women, including: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Fargowas not present virtually, but sent a message, transmitted by presenter Richard E Grant: “Thank you, dear Brits. I humbly accept this award on behalf of tribe Nomadland . I salute you. We can continue.”

The show overall was a mix of in-person presenters from London and LA, with all the winners appearing virtually.
