Check out the return of the punk style chosen for Dior Cruise 2025

The first time that the French fashion house showed in Scotland was in 1955, in two charity shows to present its summer collection. After five years, in 1960, Dior returned to the country in another charity fashion show. Now, in 2024, Maria Grazia Chiuri returns to the country, bringing a Cruise collection inspired by Queen Mary Stuart's embroidery and traditional pieces, such as kilts and tartans. Furthermore, the parade also celebrates punk counterculture and also the collaboration of other artists, such as Samantha McCoach. Check out.

Kilts

The kilt is a skirt without a fork, traditional attire for Gaelic men and boys. For the show, Maria Grazia Chiuri brought a reinvention of the piece, commonly worn at knee length. The creative director brought pieces with more transparency, and some with shorter or longer lengths. The traditional checkerboard remained in the collection.

Tartans

Tartan has a checkered print pattern, closely linked to kilts. For the fashion show, Maria Grazia Chiuri shows a different way of using traditional fabric, through pants and dresses. The translation of tartan is “light woolen garment”. Very associated with the Scots – as it was widely used by clans – the print can be traced back to the Iron Age, from 700 to 50 BC.

Boots

Boots and combat boots are key pieces of the punk counterculture movement. For the parade, the combat boots gave way to boots with flat soles and high tops.

Leather gloves

Another piece that comes from the punk movement are gloves. At the show, Dior gave voice to the openwork leather gloves, at elbow height.

Metallized parts

Metal was also present at the show, whether through chains or metallic mesh, which covered the models' laps.

About the Punk movement

Punk is a movement of struggle, freedom of expression, and behavior. In the 1970s, it gained more strength and meaning, mainly through music and fashion. The movement becomes a form of acceptance, behavior and culture. In fashion, the punk movement presents authentic pieces, using layering and checkered prints – presented at Dior's Cruise show.
