Chelsea escapes by late goal to point loss – Chelsea has Saturday thanks to a late goal by Kai Havertz with a 2-1 win against West Ham United. At Leeds United, Sinisterra scored for the second weekend in a row.

Chelsea started the season disappointingly, winning just two of the first five league games. Also in the derby against West Ham it did not go smoothly. The team of coach Thomas Tuchel had no less than 70 percent possession before halftime, but failed to convert this into many goal-ready chances. (Chelsea escapes by late goal to point loss)

After an hour of play, the game came loose. In the 62nd minute, Michail Antonio scored the opening goal from a corner kick after a mistake by Chelsea goalkeeper Édouard Mendy. More than ten minutes later, ‘The Blues’ managed to equalize again through left-back Ben Chilwell, who went deep and miraculously managed to get the ball behind West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

The final phase of the game was very tumultuous. In the 88th minute, Kai Havertz scored the home team’s second goal with a tap-in, after a fine cross from Chilwell. Two minutes later, West Ham seemed to score the equaliser through Maxwell Cornet, but that goal was disallowed by VAR. Striker Jarrod Bowen would have made a foul on goalkeeper Mendy in the run-up to the goal.

At Chelsea, Hakim Ziyech remained on the bench for the entire match. However, defender Wesley Fofana made his debut in the starting line-up. The 21-year-old Englishman came this week for 80 million euros from Leicester City.

Leeds United – which grabbed psv attacker Cody Gakpo at the last minute this week – lost by a hat-trick of Brentford striker Ivan Toney disappointingly with 5-2 on a visit to ‘The Bees’. A bright spot for Leeds was the goal of former Feyenoord player Luis Sinisterra, who, like last week against Everton, managed to find the net.

Tottenham Hotspur won with difficulty against Fulham, but thanks to that victory occupies the second place in the ranking behind leader Arsenal. On Sunday, ‘The Spurs’ can still be passed by Manchester City.

The wealthy Newcastle United played at home against Crystal Palace goalless draw. Promotion candidate Nottingham Forest – which attracted no less than 21 players this transfer window – won 3-2 at home against fellow PhD candidate Bournemouth. Wolverhampton Wanderers were at home with 1-0 too strong for Southampton.
