Dutch children’s series Kabam! wins Emmy Award

Emmy Award – The Dutch productionKabam! van IJswater Films has won prizes at the International Emmy Awards. These awards are awarded to the best TV shows made outside of the United States.
The prestigious awards were awarded for the fiftieth time on Monday evening (American time). The kindergarten drama series was nominated in the category Kids: Live-Action.
In the KRO-NCRV series, fear in children is central. In ten short stories, each time a different student from master Mo’s class (Idriss Nabil) comes along with his own fear. The series wants to show “that everyone is afraid sometimes”, and that there is often a solution to come up with.
Kabam! is directed by Elisabeth Hesemans. The series faced competition from productions from Singapore, Australia and Mexico. The award ceremony took place at the Hilton Midtown Hotel in New York.
‘Through fantasy, children tackle fears’
Broadcaster KRO-NCRV is proud that their youth series has won the prize: “A special achievement to be the only Dutch entry to win such a large television prize and a wonderful confirmation of the quality of kindergarten and youth drama from KRO-NCRV and the NPO in general.”
Ice Water Movies speaks of “fantastic” news. “Super, this international recognition of the special theme of our youth drama series; through fantasy, young children tackle their fears,” says the producer.
In the past, the Netherlands has received a statuette several times during the International Emmy Awards. Among others, the film Het Zakmes, actors Pierre Bokma and Maarten Heijmans, actresses Bianca Krijgsman and Maryam Hassouni and TV programDe Grote Donorshowwere awarded prizes. Peter R. de Vries received the award in 2008 for his report on the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.
