Clubs and matches for the quarter-finals of the Libertadores defined

On Thursday night (22), the last teams to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores da América were defined. Of the eight teams still in the competition, five are Brazilian. River Plate from Argentina, Colo-Colo from Chile and Peñarol from Uruguay are the qualified teams that are not from Brazil and are still fighting for the title of the most important club tournament in South America.

The matches for this phase have already been defined and will take place in the weeks beginning on September 18, the first leg and the second leg the following week, on September 25. The detailed dates and times at which each club will play will be announced soon by CONMEBOL.

The five Brazilians classified

Fluminense, Atlético Mineiro, São Paulo, Botafogo and Flamengo are the Brazilian clubs that have qualified for the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores da América. Of these five, only three Brazilian teams will fight for the title of the tournament, as there will be two clashes between them.

With the Rio de Janeiro teams classified, Botafogo, Fluminense and Flamengo, this is the first time in the history of the tournament that three clubs from the same city will play in this phase of the Copa Libertadores da América.

Defined confrontations

With no dates yet announced by CONMEBOL, the matches have been defined. There will be two matches between Brazilian teams and the current champion of the tournament, Fluminense x Atlético Mineiro and São Paulo x Botafogo. There will be River Plate x Colo-Colo from Chile and Flamengo x Peñarol from Uruguay.

The sides are set, with the winner of Fluminense and Atlético Mineiro facing River Plate or Colo-Colo in the semi-finals. The winner of São Paulo vs Botafogo will face Flamengo or Peñarol.

Tournament Prizes

By qualifying for the quarterfinals, the eight clubs each received $1.7 million or R$8.5 million at the current exchange rate. In total, the clubs earned an average of $5.95 million during the tournament.

Those who advance to the semi-finals will each receive $2.3 million. If they reach the final, the runner-up will receive $7 million and the champion $23 million.

This year's Libertadores final will be held in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, with no stadium defined by CONMEBOL. The final is scheduled for November 30.
