CNH ACC: how to get a license for a moped
– best Ai uses and Ai related updates, fresh and up to date Ai technologies and how to use Ai tools!

Obtaining the ACC (Authorization to Drive Mopeds) is a great option for those who want to drive a moped legally and safely without needing a conventional CNH (National Driver's License).

By following all the requirements and steps that we will explain below, it is possible to obtain a license and be able to drive mopeds throughout the national territory, always respecting traffic regulations to ensure everyone's safety.

Mopeds are two or three-wheeled vehicles with an internal combustion engine with up to 50 cm³ of displacement, or electric vehicles with a maximum power of 4 kW and that do not exceed 50 km/h. The ACC is an alternative to the category A of the CNH for those who want to drive mopeds, such as the famous “cinquentinhas”.

The so-called CNH ACC is a specific type of license in Brazil that allows the holder to drive exclusively mopeds and does not authorize the driving of conventional motorcycles. These require the CNH Category A, which allows the driver to drive any type of motorcycle, regardless of engine size.

To obtain the ACC CNH, the candidate must meet some requirements similar to those needed for the Category A CNH:

  1. Minimum age of 18 years. Be criminally liable (be 18 years old and understand the consequences of your actions, and can be held criminally responsible for them).
  2. Know how to read and write in Portuguese.
  3. Have an identity document (RG or equivalent) with a current photo and your own CPF.
  4. Request the service at Detran (Regional Traffic Unit or District/Ciretran) in the candidate's address.
  5. Carry out medical and psychometric examinations

The workload for the ACC is shorter than for the CNH category A, both for the theoretical course (20 hours/class) and for the practical course (10 hours/class). The candidate also needs to pass a theoretical exam and a practical driving exam.

The ACC is ideal for people who only intend to drive mopeds and have no interest or need to drive larger motorcycles. Obtaining the ACC is usually less expensive than the category A driver's license, as it requires fewer hours of classes and exams.

The process for obtaining the ACC is simpler and faster and, in addition, it is important for driving mopeds legally, avoiding fines and vehicle seizures due to lack of a license.

It can be requested online or in person. Check the website of the Detran in your municipality.

How to get a moped license (ACC)

Follow the step by step

  1. Registration generation at Detran and at a Driver Training Center (CFC)

The first step is to enroll in a Driver Training Center (driving school) that offers the ACC course. Make sure to choose a driving school that is accredited by the State Department of Traffic (DETRAN) in your region. After enrolling, the candidate must undergo medical and psychotechnical exams to assess their physical, mental and psychological conditions to drive mopeds.Detran screenshot of how to get ACC

  2. Theoretical-technical course

The theoretical course load for ACC is less than that required for CNH category A. There are 20 hours/class covering topics such as traffic legislation, first aid, defensive driving, citizenship, and the environment.
At the end of the theoretical course, the candidate must pass a theoretical test administered by DETRAN, which consists of multiple-choice questions on the content studied.Detran screenshot of how to get ACC

  3. Practical Driving Course

If the candidate passes the theoretical test, he/she moves on to the practical phase, which includes 10 hours/class of practical driving on a moped, with at least 5 hours of this carried out in an open environment, such as public roads, and under the supervision of an accredited instructor.
The practice includes basic maneuvers, clutch control (if applicable), notions of safety, balance and respect for traffic regulations.Detran screenshot of how to get ACC

  4. Practical driving course:

If the candidate passes the theoretical test, he/she will move on to the practical phase, which includes 10 hours of practical driving on a moped, with at least 5 hours of this being carried out in an open environment, such as on public roads, and under the supervision of a certified instructor. The practical phase includes basic maneuvers, clutch control (if applicable), safety concepts, balance and compliance with traffic laws.

  5. Practical driving test:

The practical driving test consists of a test supervised by a DETRAN examiner, where the candidate must demonstrate his/her ability to drive the moped safely and in accordance with traffic regulations. The practical test assesses skills such as starting, stopping, maneuvering on a circuit, turning, avoiding obstacles, and obeying traffic signs.

  6. Obtaining ACC:

If approved in all stages (medical, psychotechnical, theoretical and practical exams), the candidate will receive the ACC, which is valid for 1 year.

The costs to obtain the ACC include: medical examination (physical and mental fitness), theoretical classes, practical classes, Detran fee for theoretical exam, Detran fee for practical exam.

The ACC only allows its holder to drive mopeds, and no other type of vehicle. If you already have a driver's license in another category and want to add the ACC, the process is even easier.

Although the procedures are practically the same, those who already have a driver's license do not need to take the theoretical course, which makes the process simpler and faster.

In this case, the inclusion of the ACC on the driver's license is done by inserting the acronym “ACC” in the “Observations” field of the document.
