Coach Gennaro Gattuso has left Fiorentina after 22 days. According to Italian media, the coach and his new employer are said to be at loggerheads over the transfer policy to be implemented.
Gattuso reportedly only wants to attract players who are also under contract with his agent Jorge Mendes. Fiorentina did not want to go along with this and decided, according to a statement “in good consultation with Gattuso”, to end the cooperation.
The 43-year-old Gattuso was told as Napoli coach last month that his expiring commitment was not renewed. He had been working there since December 2019. Two days later he signed a contract with Fiorentina.

Fiorentina was gattuso’s fourth club as manager of Italian Serie A. In addition to Napoli, he worked for Palermo and AC Milan. At the latter club, the Italian made a name for himself as a hard-hitting midfielder. The 73-time Italian international played 13 years at ‘I Rossoneri’.
Fiorentina have been in the lower reaches of Serie A in recent years. ‘La Viola’ finished 13th last season.
