On Wednesday (11), Corinthians hosted Juventude at Neo Química Arena for the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil. With the result of the first game, 2-1 for Juventude, in Caxias do Sul, the São Paulo team needed to win by at least two goals to advance to the semifinals of the competition. And with the 3-1 victory, Corinthians qualified for the semifinals of the competition.

First half

Corinthians started the match better, looking for a goal, even though they needed the result, and after just five minutes, they almost opened the scoring. After a cross into the area, Gustavo Henrique fought with the Juventude defenders in the air and the ball fell to Romero, who kicked hard, the ball went past the goalkeeper, but the defense cleared it before it could reach the back of the net.

Juventude only managed to reach the goal for the first time in the 16th minute. After a free kick in the area, João Lucas rose higher than the Corinthians defense and headed the ball, but it went wide, without threatening goalkeeper Hugo.

In the 21st minute, Juventude grew in the match and started attacking again. After Corinthians made a bad pass, the team from Rio Grande do Sul launched a counterattack. Alan Ruschel received the ball on the attacking flank and, unmarked, shot from a long way out. The ball deflected off the defense and ended up going to goalkeeper Hugo.

With 25 minutes, it was Corinthians' turn to respond, more in desire than in quality, after a back and forth in the Juventude area, Matheus Bidu received the ball at the edge of the area and finished with a cross, the ball went dangerously wide of goalkeeper Gabriel's post.

Corinthians scored in the 28th minute with Romero. The Paraguayan won the dispute in the air, the ball went to Yuri Alberto who skillfully found Thalles Magno on the way in, who calmly passed the ball to the striker to set up and finish with skill to open the scoring.

At 31 minutes, the Caxias do Sul team responded quickly, but the goal was disallowed by VAR. In a move that seemed to be under control, Matheus Bidu made a mistake when protecting the ball that would have reached Hugo. Striker Lucas Barbosa was smarter and touched the ball at the same time that Hugo came out to make the save and after the challenge, he only touched it into the empty goal.

The referee on the field marked the goal for number 21, however after four minutes of VAR review, referee Wagner do Nascimento Magalhães disallowed the goal because he considered that the ball was already under control by the goalkeeper, signaling the foul by the Juventude striker.

In the 40th minute, Juventude scores a goal in yet another controversial move. After a corner kick taken by Alan Ruschel, Zé Marcos challenges goalkeeper Hugo in the penalty area and the ball ends up going in. Once again, VAR comes into play, the game is stopped for another seven minutes, but Hugo's own goal is confirmed and Juventude ties the match.

In the 50th minute, Yuri Alberto has the last opportunity of the first half, with a header, alone in the penalty area, and the striker moves the goalkeeper too far and ends up kicking the ball out of the goal.

Second half

Corinthians attacked Juventude again at the start of the second half. One minute into the second half, midfielder Charles took a shot from outside the area and goalkeeper Gabriel palmed it away for a corner.

Two minutes later, Corinthians scored for the third time. Again with Charles, the midfielder received a classy pass from Garro and headed the ball dangerously wide.

In the ninth minute, it was Garro's turn to receive the ball in the penalty area, after a good pass from Yuri Alberto. The number 10 shot, but Gabriel made another good save for Juventude.

Corinthians continued to press in search of a goal. In the 20th minute, Igor Coronado shot from outside the area and Gabriel saved Juventude once again.

Corinthians took the lead again in the 36th minute, when Juventude seemed to be improving the game and trying some chances. In another play by Garro, the number 10 shot from outside the area, Gabriel defended again, and on the rebound he caught defender Zé Marcos, who slipped on the play and ended up scoring an own goal.

Corinthians pressed and sought the goal at all times, while Juventude just held on, saving balls on the line and counting on saves from goalkeeper Gabriel.

However, in the 51st minute, close to the end of the match, from a corner kick taken by Igor Coronado, defender André Ramalho jumped higher than everyone else and headed the ball powerfully into the back of the net, qualifying Corinthians.
