COVID-19 Vaccination in Indonesia
Indonesia began vaccinating against COVID-19 on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. On the first day of injection of the COVID-19 vaccine, the first person injected was President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo with Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, and a number of other figures. .
Vaccination took place after the Food and Drug Administration (BPOM) previously granted an emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine.
“The approval for the Indonesian COVID-19 vaccine from WHO meets the requirements to be granted approval for use in emergency conditions . Therefore, today, Monday 11 January 202, gives approval for use in emergency conditions for the COVID-19 vaccine produced by PT Bio Farma , “said Head of BPOM Penny Lukito Penny in an online press conference, Monday (11/1/2021).
In this inaugural vaccination, the vaccine used is CoronaVac COVID-19 which was developed by the Sinovac Biotech Ltd company from China, in collaboration with Bio Farma and Padjadjaran University (Unpad).

Penny confirmed, the Sinovac vaccine is safe to use. According to him, the efficacy of the Sinovac vaccine in Indonesia is 65.23 percent. “The 65.3 percent efficacy of clinical trials in Bandung shows the hope that this vaccine can reduce the incidence of Covid,” he said.
However, said Penny, there are side effects that will be caused after vaccination. However, the side effects are not dangerous. “Overall, it shows that the CoronaVac vaccine is safe, with the incidence of side effects being mild to moderate,” he said.
The use of this vaccine was permitted after the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) previously stated that the halal Sinovac vaccine was used by the Indonesian people. This is based on an agreement at the Plenary Session of the MUI Fatwa Commission which was held on Friday (8/1/2021).
“The explanation from the auditors agreed that the COVID-19 Sinovac vaccine made in China is lawful and lawful,” said Chairman of the MUI for Fatwa, Asrorun Niam Sholeh, in an online press conference broadcast on the YouTube channel MUI TV, Friday (8/1/2021)
