CPB votes on new statute that could change the entity's presidency rule
– international sports, latest sports news, local games and international games

The Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) is expected to undergo a reformulation of its legislation next Monday (12). A controversial determination will be voted on, which limits the presidency of the confederation only to Paralympic athletes who participated in a national-level sporting competition. The proposal is unprecedented both in Brazil and in other countries, and aims to preserve the leading role of athletes with disabilities, in addition to maintaining the quality of the entity's administration, in the relationship between sport and governance.

Non-unanimous measure

In some entities participating in the Committee, the proposal related to the requirements for the presidency is not accepted, but in 14 of the 21 existing ones (14 sports entities and 7 members of the Athletes' Council), it was approved. Among the signatures for the approval of the statute reform are the Brazilian Confederation of Rowing (CBR), Archery (CBTARCO), Canoeing (CBCa), Volleyball for the Disabled (CBVD), Wheelchair Basketball (CBBC ) and Sports for the Visually Impaired (CBDV). The Brazilian Wheelchair Rugby Association (ABRC), the National Association of Sports for the Disabled (ANDE) and the CPB Athletes Council also voted positively for the change.

On the 12th, if half of those present at the Assembly vote in favor, the new statute will be approved.

Expected to be effective from 2028

The last election of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee was in October, in which José Antônio Ferreira was elected president, who will take office on January 1, 2025. If the new statute is approved, the new rule would only come into force in this vote, from now on. four years. Even if the statute were changed, he could seek re-election, due to his three victories in the Brazilian Five-a-side Football Championship, in the 90s.

Currently, Mizael Conrado is the president of the institution, and is a two-time Paralympic five-a-side football champion, in Athens (2004) and Beijing (2008).
