Daiana Garbin warns about diagnosis on National Day to Combat Childhood Cancer

This Wednesday (23) is National Day to Combat Childhood Cancer. And journalist Daiana Garbin, married to Tiago Leifert, with whom she has 2-year-old Lua, warned about the importance of early diagnosis to increase the chances of curing cancer. The couple's daughter was diagnosed more than a year ago with a rare type of eye cancer, retinoblastoma.

The journalist warned about the disease through a video on her Instagram. In it, she asks Internet users to help by making everyone aware of the importance of paying attention to the symptoms of this disease, such as a fever with no apparent cause or an illness that does not improve; frequent headache, accompanied by vomiting; sudden change in vision; unusual lump or swelling; red spots on the skin. “If you suspect anything, talk to your pediatrician! More information @instagraacc or https://graacc.org.br”he said.

In January of this year, Daiana and Tiago announced that their daughter, Lua, then just 1 year old, was undergoing treatment for a rare eye cancer called retinoblastoma.

The couple explained that it is a rare disease, with only around 200 cases in Brazil, and that it affects very young children, before the age of two or three. Therefore, retinoblastoma is difficult to discover.

At the time, the couple highlighted the importance of early diagnosis in the treatment of retinoblastoma. “We are making this video not asking for positive energy, but of course we are, but if we can get a couple to take a child (to the doctor) sooner than we did, mission accomplished. If you notice that there is a irregular movement in her eye, in her eyeball, which is looking at you from the side, go immediately to an ophthalmologist. Our intention is for you to find out sooner than we found out.”said Leifert.

The couple made a point of showing Lua to their followers, saying that they discovered the disease was already at its peak and that she had not lost her hair due to chemotherapy. But everyone was fine, so internet users wouldn't worry.
