More information about the game, via Blizzard:

The demon Lilith and the angel Inarius joined together to create the world of Sanctuary, moved by the desire to escape the Eternal Conflict between Hell and Paradise. But now, decades after the events of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, Father and Mother are implacable enemies who have resorted to war, each with an army of followers. The lands of Sanctuary have been taken over by hordes of demons, and only the most steadfast heroic soul will be able to face the darkness. Players will come to the world choosing between five classes: the Druids, masters of shapeshifting, the agile Forsaken, the elemental Mages, the violent Barbarians and the cunning Necromancers. As they gain more power, players will build their gameplay experience as they see fit, experimenting with skill trees to use complementary spells and abilities.

For the first time, the Diablo universe will feature a vast open world. Players will fend off the demons of Hell by traversing different areas of Sanctuary: the snowy forests of Fractured Summits, the Howling Mountains of Scosglen, the putrid swamps of Hawezar, the barren lands of the Dry Steppes, and the deserts of Kehjistan, home to the central city of Caldeum. The non-linear experience consists of an epic captivating story, over 140 dungeons, side quests and a plethora of loot. Mighty World Bosses appear, inviting players to fight them in groups and claim loot, and Strongholds await heroic adventurers to reclaim them and return them to the people of Sanctuary. Contributing to the top-notch action-RPG experience is also a robust endgame system, which allows players to continue gaining power by facing countless challenges. There’s the grueling Infernal Tide, a recurring event that increases demonic activity in Sanctuary, the brutal and challenging Nightmare Dungeons, an updated Excellence Board system to push hero customization to new heights of power, Whispers of the Dead, which grant legendary rewards for selected world hunts, and the Fields of Hatred, which offer the chance to gain renown in PvP.
