Dior shows men's summer 2025 collection

Dior showed today (21st) for men's fashion week in Paris, transforming Hylton Nel's ceramics into giant sculptures. The brand's creative director, Kim Jones, was not only inspired by the South African artist's works for the setting, but also for the fresh and colorful designs of the clothes in the new collection.

This season, the director collaborated with the ceramic artist on ideas that ranged from accessories, such as shoes and bags, to the smallest details of the collars, which stood out in the presentation for their plurality and various possibilities.

Parade

Jones found inspiration in Nel's hard ceramics to create varied looks in her collection. From collars with details in the sailor style, with bows hanging at the front, to the more classic ones such as turtlenecks and priest collars, each piece reflected the artist's influence in a unique way.

The cold and neutral color palette, which has been used on other occasions by the director, was once again in evidence in most of the looks, contrasting with colorful pieces such as the blue floral jacket, one of the highlights of the presentation.

Materials such as knitting and jacquard were used in pieces, such as the pullover that displayed the phrase “Dior for my real friends”.

Inspiration from ceramics

Before the parade began, an audience of approximately 1,200 people was able to circulate around the enormous stage, enjoying Nel's sculptures in versions larger than their original size. Cats are recurring themes in the artist's work, and they were also present in the giant sculptures in the parade.

“What impressed me was his knowledge, a world of knowledge from 18th century Staffordshire to Tang Dynasty Chinese pottery and a whole series of ceramics in between… which led me to this collection, where I wanted to do something quite guys”said Kim Jones in a printed note that was placed on each guest's seat.

In her designs, Nel draws inspiration from the small farming community of Calitzdorp, South Africa, where she lives. This was evident in the collection's clothes through the prints of animals such as roosters, horses and birds, as well as flowers and other designs, which were embroidered on the pieces.
