Disney announces new cast for “Percy Jackson” series

Disney announced this Thursday (5), two other actors who will be part of the main trio of the series “Percy Jackson and the olympians”in addition to Walker Scobell who will play the protagonist Percy Jackson, son of the god Poseidon, which had already been announced on April 12. Actress Leah Sava Jeffries will play Annabeth Chase, daughter of the goddess Athena; and actor Aryan Simhadri will play Grover Underwood, guardian satyr and Percy's best friend.

Regarding the cast, the production chose actors in the approximate age range of their characters, but who have already been in major productions. Walker Scobell, who is 13 years old, was in the film “Project Adam” which was released by Netflix. Leah Sava Jeffries, 12, played the character Lola in the series “Empire” and Aryan Simhadri is the oldest of the trio, being 15 years old, and has worked with Disney before on projects such as the remake of “Twelve is too much”in the movie “Spin” and in the animated series “Mira, The Kingdom Detective”.

The first season should adapt the first book of the saga, “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief”. Rick Riordan confirmed on his blog that he is directly involved in the production of the series, occupying the position of executive producer, and that the first year of the series will have 8 episodes, and that the first 4 scripts are almost finished, but the team is working on the last 4 episodes. The pilot script will be written by Riordan himself, and will be directed by James Bobin (“Lost City”).

Filming is scheduled to begin in June of this year, and more information about the rest of the cast is expected to be released in the coming months.

Synopsis

Percy Jackson is 12 years old and struggling at school due to his dyslexia and attention deficit, when he discovers that he is the son of a Greek god, and is being accused of stealing the master bolt, the main weapon and symbol of power of none other than Zeus, the king of Olympus. With the help of his friend and protector Grover and Annabeth Chase, daughter of the goddess of wisdom, they must find the bolt and discover who stole it before a war breaks out on Olympus.
