Disney announces sequels to several animations

Disney has been announcing sequels to several of its biggest animations, but the biggest surprise was the announcement of Moana 2, which hits theaters in November this year.

What and who is Moana

Moana is an animated film released in 2016 that tells the story of a girl named Moana, who receives an unexpected calling from her ancestors. Moana must travel to distant and dangerous seas that no one has sailed in a long time, to experience an adventure like no other she has ever faced. Moana 2 should continue the heroine's adventures.

The “teaser” of Moana 2 was released by the official Walt Disney Studios channel and announces Moana 2 for the end of 2024, November 27th.

The announcement comes at a good time, after all, Moana is in a “hype” since the announcement of its “live action”, which is expected to feature The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) reprising his role as Maui, a character the actor voiced in the animation. The film is expected to premiere on June 27, 2025.

What's to come

Creating sequels to successful animations has always been a feature of Disney studios (which is something fans seem to love).

We can see this from his older animations, such as Lion King 1, 2 and 3, Brother Bear 1 and 2, Mulan 1 and 2, Mowgli 1 and 2, among others.

And this time it wasn't just Moana, but several acclaimed animations from Disney studios are getting sequels. One of the most anticipated is the continuation of Inside Out 2, which will premiere on June 14 this year; Zootopia, another animation loved by the public, already has its sequel, Zootopia 2, scheduled for 2025. While Toy Story 5 and Frozen 3 are scheduled for 2026.
